Together with the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte and LMU Munich, we cordially invite you to the 38th German Congress for Art History.

The Deubner Prize 2026 will be awarded this evening at the opening ceremony. Congratulations to all recipients of our early career awards!

As part of the current wage negotiations, another warning strike has been called: from 3:30 a.m. on Friday, 27 February, until 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, 1 March. The strike will affect the underground, trams and buses. Please plan your journeys on public transport accordingly.

The call is now closed, the selection of the proposals will take place at the end of June. Afterwards, all applicants will be notified personally by us.

Call for applications: Travel grants for young researchers

Thanks to the generous support of the Gerda Henkel Foundation, 40 travel grants are available for young researchers attending the 38th German Congress of Art History (25–28 February, Munich) and the Young Researchers Forum taking place there.

Application deadline: 4 January 2026.

Call for Papers: 38th German Congress for Art History 2026

The 38th German Congress for Art History will be hosted and organised by the German Association for Art History, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte and the Institute of Art History of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (Munich, 25-28 February 2026).

Interested colleagues from all fields of art history and neighbouring disciplines, from people at all career levels, from Germany and abroad are warmly invited to submit their proposals for individual papers to be delivered at the 38th German Congress for Art History by the deadline June 8, 2025.

Announcement: 38th German Congress for Art History

After a lengthy search for a venue for the next congress, the Executive Board has secured the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich as co-organiser. The congress is expected to take place from 25 to 28 February 2026 in cooperation with the Zentralinstitut and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

The planning with our Munich co-operation partners is in full swing. We will keep you up to date with all the latest news on the congress website. A call for papers is expected to be published in the second half of April 2025.
